The very best venues to get married in London
“Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.”
Samuel Johnson said this in 1777 and it couldn’t be more true today. With its eclectic mix of architecture, bars, hotels, restaurants, greenhouses, pretty buildings, buildings which have seen better days, beautifully battered buildings, London could never disappoint in providing the perfect backdrop for getting married, regardless of who you are and what your preferences might be; and here are some of the best London wedding locations:
The Barbican Conservatory, a stunning greenhouse wedding venue at the heart of London
With its imposing concrete walls, the Barbican Centre itself is a perfect example of Brutalist Architecture and was voted the ugliest building in London in 2003. That alone makes it a truly unique London wedding venue! However, its magnificent conservatory, the second largest in London, softens the visual blow of the severe zig-zaggy lines and covers the grey structure with stunning exotic greenery. It provides a breathtaking view for your ceremony. Boasting a beautiful terrace and garden room to seat your guests for the wedding breakfast, this grand urban jungle is the perfect venue for a modern London city wedding.
Clapton country club, a modern Hackney wedding venue
Taking you back to the streets of East London, with yellow brick, festoon lights, an impressive collection of indoor plants and two gorgeous main rooms (one of which is appropriately called the “Department of Life) for your ceremony, dining and evening celebration, Clapton Country Club was originally built as a wedding venue for its owners. The kitchen serves incredible food, focused on organic, biodynamic and sustainability. A fantastic match for the urban foodie couple, CCC has the London wedding photographer’s seal of approval thanks to its beautiful natural window light and stunning features such as wooden floors, exposed brick walls, rusted steel beams, columns and steel sliding doors.
Petersham Nurseries, a west London greenhouse wedding venue
Definitely one of London’s hidden gems, Petersham Nurseries is the perfect venue for a magical wedding experience. The glasshouse is available for private hire and would be ideal for a small, intimate London wedding.
Wild by Tart, a modern venue in Westminster
Located near Victoria, one of London’s busiest hubs, Wild by Tart is home to a gorgeous restaurant combining the chic and urban with its stylish, modern features, beautiful skylights and exposed ducting. Housed in a former power station and coal store, the restaurant brings the outside in with gorgeous trailing indoor greenery. Bound to offer your guests a wholesome culinary experience, Wild by Tart is a great match for the relaxed food loving couple and a perfect pairing for a London Town hall wedding ceremony. With gorgeous light flooding in through the ceiling, and beautiful victorian architecture surrounding it, Wild by Tart provides excellent photo ops and is definitely high up on my favourites list.
RHS Wisley, a Victorian Glasshouse Surrey wedding venue
Located just outside of the London Orbital Motorway, this stunning victorian glasshouse is a hidden gem of the Surrey countryside. Home to an impressive waterfall and beautiful plants from all over the world, the cathedral-esque glass building covers the area of twelve tennis fields and would be a breathtaking backdrop for a wedding celebration. Less than an hour’s drive away from central London, it is the perfect wedding venue for those who would prefer to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
One friendly place, one of London’s most unusual places to get married
Concrete lovers, this one’s for you. A wonderful four floors filled with eclectic, sometimes unexpected props, this London wedding venue is an amalgamation of the cool, curious and wonderful. There are textured walls, natural light and would make the perfect South East reception venue after an Asylum chapel ceremony.
The Asylum Chapel, a truly unique Peckham wedding venue
A Grade II listed building located in South East London, the Asylum Chapel is part of Maverick Projects who manage a handful of some of London’s quirkiest venues. A perfect choice if you’re not particularly keen on decorating a space, as the Asylum itself is in itself a work of art with original stained glass windows and its decayed iconic blue walls. That together with the gorgeous light make the Asylum a photographer’s dream and one of the most desired wedding venues in the UK.
Islington Metalworks, a quirky London wedding venue
One for the cool kids! Before becoming metal works, the venue was used as stables for the horses that pulled London’s transport trams. Full of quirky props such as a London tube carriage bar, the venue can even provide fireworks above the glass roofs. A place where you can let your imagination run wild and wow your guests with a truly unique wedding.
Sky Garden, London’s highest garden wedding venue
Located at the very top of London’s ‘walkie talkie’ building, the Sky Garden offers breathtaking 360 views over London, making it an incredibly special venue for your wedding reception. Its name couldn’t be more appropriate, as it is home to numerous species of Mediterranean and South African plants.
Hackney Town Hall Atrium, an Art Deco London wedding venue
One of Hackney Town Hall’s five stunning venues to get married in, the Atrium offers splendid architecture, beautiful natural light and a large blank canvas to let your wedding styling imagination run wild. Perfect for a Hogwarts style table arrangement and a mesmerising place to get married.
